Cut off
The etymology for "decide” is dēcīdere, Latin for “to cut off.” I love that metaphor. To decide is to cut off all other options, all other branching possibilities or potential futures.
As a fan of churning out iteration upon iteration in my creative process, I probably delay this pruning process longer than I should. But in the end, the creative process is about making a choice, seeing what it leads to, then making another choice, now with more information. Curation of possibilities meeting the limitations of cold hard reality.
