Lucky Harvest
Look what I just stumbled across!
It’s a collection of scanned seed catalogs on the Internet Archive, a smorgasbord of fantastic flower, fruit, and vegetable illustrations topped off with funky typography.
I’ve handpicked a few selections (be sure to click through the gallery!).
A few things of note:
The charisma of tomatoes
There are some great Pennsylvania Keystone inclusions.
Look at that page of Asters! Absurd! So lovely!
What a cool blue to use as the basic ink for the Griffith and Turner Co. catalogue.
I was struck by the back cover of the Schlegel & Fottler Catalogue. That asymmetrical approach is familiar somehow, but so rarely utilized these days to that effect. It’s like a bundle or bouquet.
“Vegetables for Victory Gardens” & “Flowers for Morale.” And those amazing curly-cues.
